Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the Clevedon Showhome and who it was designed for?

The Clevedon Showhome was inspired by a relaxed coastal-country aesthetic, using natural materials, soft neutral tones and layered textures to create a warm, light-filled home that feels connected to its surroundings.

It was designed to be adaptable rather than suited to only one type of homeowner. The home could be built as it stands or expanded to suit a growing family, changing lifestyle or larger site. Its pavilion-style design would sit equally well in a rural or coastal setting.

What were the key design principles that guided the overall look and feel of the home?

The design was guided by three key principles: light, connection and simplicity. The home was carefully positioned to maximise natural light and create a strong connection between the indoor and outdoor living areas.

Large windows bring natural light deep into the home, while the raking ceilings increase the sense of volume and openness. Working alongside our interiors partner, Yellowfox, we developed a warm coastal-country palette using natural materials, soft colours and layered textures. The Signature Homes Botany & Manukau team then furnished and styled the completed home.

When should homeowners start thinking about flooring, and why is it important to plan ahead?

Homeowners should start thinking about flooring right at the beginning of the design process. We have all our clients select their flooring before construction starts, as the thickness and set-out need to be confirmed early to achieve level entry at aluminium joinery thresholds to outdoor areas.

It is also important to review flooring colours alongside the wider interior palette, including paint colours, cabinetry and joinery, so the finishes work together cohesively throughout the home.

What flooring and carpet products did you select for each space?

For the main living areas, we selected COREtec XL-End timber-look flooring for its natural appearance, durability and practicality.

The master suite features Bremworth Kensho Insight wool carpet for softness, warmth and natural texture.

Belgotex Parkview Gardens Mosman, a solution-dyed nylon carpet, was selected for the other bedrooms to provide durability and stain resistance.

Together, the products balance comfort, performance and a consistent design palette.

How did the home’s connection to the outdoors influence the flooring choices?

We selected warm, natural colours that complement the surrounding landscape. The timber-look flooring creates a strong connection to the outdoors, while the carpets add warmth and softness to the bedrooms.

What are the benefits of investing in quality flooring from the beginning?

Flooring is one of the most heavily used surfaces in a home. Quality products provide better durability, comfort and long-term performance while contributing significantly to the overall look and feel of the interior.

What is your advice for someone selecting flooring for a new build?

Consider your flooring as part of the complete interior palette. Review it alongside your cabinetry, paint colours, joinery and window furnishings.

It is also important to confirm the flooring type and thickness early so finished floor levels and thresholds can be detailed correctly.

What flooring trends are popular in new builds right now?

Warm, natural interiors remain popular, particularly timber-look flooring in soft oak tones paired with textured neutral carpets.

Homeowners are also placing more importance on durable, timeless products rather than short-term trends.

What part of the Clevedon Showhome are you most proud of, and why?

There are so many details throughout the home that we are proud of as a team. The most rewarding part is knowing visitors can walk away with ideas and inspiration they can apply to their own building project.

We often hear how spacious the home feels. At 182m², it is not a small home, but it is not especially large either. The connected deck, raking ceilings and layout of the entrance, kitchen, dining and living areas create an impressive sense of volume, openness and space.
