Inspired by the rich textures and cosy feel of homes found in places like Wānaka, the Urban Homes Tamahere show home was designed to feel warm, inviting and genuinely liveable. From the timber finishes through to the flooring, every detail was carefully considered to create a home that feels as good as it looks.
For the bedrooms and living rooms, Rhino Beaumont carpet was chosen for its luxurious feel, durability and premium finish — qualities that complement the high-end design while standing up to the demands of a busy show home.
We spoke with Daniel Klinkenberg, Managing Director of Urban Homes, about the vision behind the Tamahere show home, why Rhino Beaumont was the right carpet choice, and how it has performed in a high-traffic environment.
What was the design vision for the Tamahere show home, and what experience were you aiming to create for prospective homeowners?
The design vision for the Tamahere show home was to create a home that felt as though it had been picked up from the deep south and placed in Tamahere. We took inspiration from the homes you see in places like Wānaka, incorporating timber and rich textures throughout.
More importantly, we wanted the home to feel warm, cosy and inviting. The feedback we receive most often is that people feel they could move straight in and live there. It feels homely, comfortable and welcoming, rather than having a more industrial or stark modern feel.

What design, comfort and performance requirements did the carpet specification need to meet?
As a high-end home, it was important that the carpet reflected the overall quality of the project. We wanted a product that not only performed well from a durability perspective but also delivered the right look and feel.
When people see the carpet, it looks great, but more importantly, when they walk on it, they immediately notice how comfortable it feels. That sense of comfort and warmth was central to the vision for the home, so selecting the right carpet was a key part of achieving that outcome.

What made Rhino Beaumont the right fit for the bedrooms and other carpeted spaces?
Rhino Beaumont is a quality product. It wears well and looks and feels quality. Our colours and selections team were particularly enthusiastic about it, and I trusted their recommendation.

As a show home that welcomes a high volume of visitors, how has Rhino Beaumont performed in that environment?
People visiting love the look of the carpet, but probably even more so, they love the feel of it. It's comfortable to walk on and has a luxurious, quality feel. Those qualities align closely with the overall attributes we were aiming to achieve throughout the home.
What feedback have you received from visitors about the show home?
The feedback has been extremely positive. Visitors have commented on the overall design, quality and attention to detail throughout the home. Many have said they've never seen another show home quite like it. The feel of the home has resonated strongly with people, which has been very encouraging.
How was your experience working with Carpet Court on this project?
Our experience with Carpet Court was good, which is why we continue to work with them. This project involved a large number of trades, so the installation wasn't a simple one-visit job. Carpet Court needed to return several times as different areas became available for completion. Despite the complexity of the project, they were always good to deal with and worked well alongside the broader team.
