Modern Rugs Benefits

Perhaps the most obvious reason to have a modern rug is for the look of it. Manypeople think of a rug as a “finishing touch” for a room and for good reason too, rugs come in just about every colour, design, material, shape and size you can imagine.
Carpet Court offers an extensive range of small rugs, large rugs, round rugs, kids’ rugs, rug runners and much more. Rugs are the perfect way of adding colour and texture to a room, and when the season or your tastes change, they are relatively easy and affordable to change out for a different look. But the benefits of a rug extend far beyond just style

– Grounding aspect

When properly placed, a rug can define an area and anchor furniture in a room which helps to create a cosy and intimate space. This is particularly important in the ever-popular open plan living where you tend to have three different functioning areas – kitchen, dining and lounge in one big open space and without a rug, it can feel as though the furniture is ‘floating’ in the room. Add a kitchen rug, dining rug or lounge rug and you’ll visually define the zone and anchor the furniture.

– Warmth and comfort

We all know that carpet is softer than hardfloor and warmer underfoot. Although hardfloor is popular in living areas for both practicality and aesthetics, conversation areas like the living room can be made warmer, cosier and more inviting with a rug, particularly in the colder months. Rugs are ideal for cushioning our footsteps, reducing slips and falls and minimizing injuries when falls do occur. They also provide the perfect landing cushion, protecting delicate heads, knees and hands of little ones

– Protect hardflooring

It’s worth protecting you’re your valuable floors, especially in high traffic areas such as under the dining table where scuffs and scratches from dining room chairs are soon likely to show. Whether you have hardfloors or carpet, a rug can help protect against spills, stains and scuffs. Floors in hallways, entryways, and near the garage are normally high-traffic areas that will see more wear and tear. Use rug runners in these areas to keep shoes from leaving marks and scuffs on the floor and to protect against debris brought in from the outside

– Sound control

Noise transferring from room to room or being carried through open plan living spaces can be annoying. Rugs being a soft material help to absorb and reduce noise. Not only is a rug quieter to walk on than a hard surface floor, it also absorbs sound from the air.

Living Room Rugs

Living rooms are one of the most important spaces in the home, it is where we come together to bond, where we relax and where we entertain. With more and more homes moving to open plan living and hardflooring throughout, area rugs are becoming a staple. Living room rugs play a major part in the design of a space – whether you are trying to make your living room look bigger, add warmth or showcase your style – a living room rug is the perfect accessory and practical too.

Bedroom Rugs

A floor rug can change the whole vibe of your bedroom and create a soft landing for sleepy feet, especially if the flooring in your bedroom is hard surface. Durability is not as vital for bedroom rugs, so they are a great place to feature something more braded or textured that wouldn’t suit a high traffic area. Rug placement in the bedroom is as important as which style you choose.

There are three main ways to place a bedroom rug: with the bed fully on the rug, the bed partially on the rug, or with runners at the side of the bed.

Rugs on carpet

To some, placing a rug over wall-to-wall carpeting is an absolute no no. To others, it’s a means to an end; a way to bring in some personality and colour, or maybe to cover unsightly damage or in the carpet that otherwise isn’t ready to be replaced.

The key to layering rugs over carpet is to vary the texture. Area rugs generally work best over short-pile or looped carpet and you want to opt for a contrasting texture to your wall-to-wall carpet.

Size is important, so be sure to choose a rug that is proportionately scaled to the size of the room. A small rug that “floats” in the middle of the room is awkward. Opt for a larger rug and anchor it under furniture to avoid having it bunch up and become a tripping hazard. It is also a good idea to get a rug pad.
