Waimea Kindergarten Project
Waimea Te Puna Kindergarten is a small not for profit that provides education and care for 30 children aged between 2 and 6. Open from 7.30am-5.30pm it also provides wrap around care for older children who attend Te Awa, located on the Henley School campus.
This application is for the refurbishment of the flooring in the children’s play area. The current flooring is a patchwork of tiles, carpet and vinyl at least 20 years old and in poor condition. The tiles are broken, cracked , slippery when wet, uneven and unforgiving if children fall. The edging restricts changes to set up, is a trip hazard and an impediment for cleaning. The vinyl is delaminating becoming less hygienic and watertight. The carpet is threadbare, with the carpet cleaning company advising it will no longer withstand shampooing.
If were were to get this RhinoKids fund grant the door entrances would be safer in the wet. The carpet would be more pleasant and warmer for children to play. The whole space would be more aesthetically pleasing and more hygienic. Teachers would be able to vary the set up with one large vinyl space.

Our learning environment at Waimea Kindergarten (te puna) has been transformed into a beautiful and calming space for our tamariki and their whānau thanks to the RhinoKids funding we received from Carpet Court. Throughout the renovation we were supported and guided by their professionals to achieve the overall vision we had.
Our tamariki, whānau, and kaiako love the inviting tranquil space we have created. Our younger tamariki spend a lot of time playing on the floor so they can do this comfortably on the warm soft carpet now while also being functional with the layout of having natural wooden-look vinyl flooring in thoroughfare, art, and kai areas. Our families and teachers got involved with the renovations from the lifting of the old flooring to moving the furniture back after the new flooring was completed. Ngā mihi nui, a big thank you to Carpet Court and RhinoKids for their support in transforming our learning environment. We love it!

It was such a pleasure to work with this Kindergarten and their wider community. From concept to completion we worked together to make the dream a reality. It was awesome to see the kindergarten Whanau get stuck into preparing the spaces for us to come and do the work, they did such a good job I asked if we could hire them! It makes our branch proud to be part of a company doing good work in the community.
