Hard Floor Care
To ensure long-lasting beauty and durability of your hard flooring, a regular care and maintenance program is essential. A regular maintenance program helps to remove soil and debris before it can build up and potentially damage the surface of your hard floor and its appearance.
The following hard floor care and maintenance guidelines are recommendations provided by Carpet Court to assist with maintaining your hard flooring. The manufacturer’s warranties also contain certain conditions that must be met in order to benefit from the manufacturer’s warranties. Please read these recommendations in conjunction with the manufacturer’s conditions. See our hardfloor cleaning products.
Regular Sweeping or Vacuuming
Most dirt, and debris, takes the form of hard particles. When left on the hard floor, these gritty, sharp particles can be scratch or dent hard flooring. Regular sweeping or vacuuming removes these particles not only prolonging the life of the hard floor but also its appearance.
• Sweep with a soft brush or vacuum high-traffic areas daily, medium-to-high traffic areas twice weekly, and the entire house at least once a week.
• Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar or turn the beater bar off.
• Change the vacuum bags often and check the beater bars for burs and gouges to prevent damage to the surface of the floor.
Micro-Fibre Mopping
Use a micro-fibre mop with water or a neutral detergent to clean floors. If a neutral detergent is used, ensure it is wiped away after clean. Be sure not to over wet the floor, a damp mop is sufficient.
Please refer to maintenance guides provided with laminate or wood based products when it comes to mopping.
Please note: not all products resist the very high heat steam mops produce, please refer to the individual products care and maintenance guide regarding steam mops.
Dealing with Spills
Spills will happen! So you should treat the affected area as soon as you notice something has been spilt, as quick treatment can avoid it turning into a stain.
Try to remove the stain with a wet damp cloth or with eucalyptus oil. If the stain won’t disappear it is recommended to use a professional cleaner as outlined by manufacturer. Please refer to the instructions for the manufactures cleaning guide. Ask your Carpet Court Consultant if you require any further information.
Please note: do not use abrasive cleaning pads, sponges and cloths, or scourers, etc. Do not sand, varnish, or wax your floor. Solvents and ammonia based cleaners will also damage your floor. Do not use these products.
Preventative Maintenance
• Use walk-off mats at entrances to prevent dirt and grit from being tracked on to the floor.
• Clean mats and any other rugs placed over hard floor regularly.
• Rubber can leave stubborn marks on hard flooring, so be careful not to leave waxed or rubber products in prolonged contact with your hard floor. Furniture legs will often have rubber castors, so it is advised to replace these with plastic or nylon ends or use felt pads to protect the floor.
• Use furniture coasters to distribute the weight of heavy items.
• Lift heavy objects when moving furniture or appliances. Do not roll or slide them across the floor.
• Never use solvent-based wax, seals, polishes or varnish particularly those containing acetone as they can destroy the wear layer that protects the product.
• Keep all invoices of any cleaning services for warranty purposes.
