What is sheet vinyl flooring?

Commonly known as ‘lino’ by us Kiwi’s, has been around for decades but, with modern technologies today’s vinyl is very different to that of the past.

Sheet vinyl is just that, vinyl flooring that comes in large, continuous flexible sheets.

Vinyl flooring is extensively used because it is water-impervious, fairly durable, resilient and insulating, easy to install, available with a variety of appearances, and inexpensive.

What are the benefits?

The main reason that vinyl flooring is popular in bathrooms and kitchens is because it is resistant to moisture, steam, and humidity. Water is largely unable to penetrate the surface of this material to do damage to the subfloor, although it can be slightly vulnerable at the seams.

Vinyl flooring is a surprisingly tough material, even though it is slightly soft underfoot. It is resistant to dirt, stains, scratches, and punctures, although it can be pierced if heavy furniture legs are not outfitted with protective pads.

Vinyl flooring is very easy to keep clean with regular sweeping, vacuuming and damp mopping making it a hassle free option for busy households and those seeking a low maintenance home.

It comes in a variety of different looks: wood, stone, tile, concrete, mosaic tile, patterned and even more decorative styles. There’s something for everyone and for every interior style.

Where should I use it in my home?

Vinyl is a great flooring option for any room in the house. Its water-resistant properties mean it will stand up to quite a lot of moisture, although like many flooring products you wouldn’t want to drench it. Vinyl is an ideal flooring product to provide a continuous, seamless stone or timber look throughout the home without busting the budget.
